Japanese Garden

Adjacent to an outbuilding in the grounds of a 17th Century former hospital was the site selected by the client to design and build a Japanese-inspired garden.

The fundamental elements included were green foliage, rocks and a path.  Due to the position of the site four species of thyme were selected along with Chamomile to form a carpet.

Rocks, placed in groups, were personally selected from a chosen quarry in Wales.  Tumbled Welsh slate formed the rest of the path, finished with edges made from Indian black granite cut into strips.

The client was exceptionally pleased with the end result. He subsequently requested further work to design and build a walkway adjacent to the Japanese garden where, due to the location, moss and ‘mind your own business’ was freely planted.

The client has further commissioned work on a 1-acre walled garden which includes a bespoke 30 metre rose tunnel designed by Daniel and manufactured by a reputable local blacksmith.

Design by Daniel Lobb.  Built by Graduate Landscapes.
